A FUN day to discuss the future of play provision in Cookley will be held on Saturday.

Villagers have been urged to have their say on how to spend an initial £120,000 for leisure facilities.

Cookley Space for All, which aims to sort out play and leisure facilities for all ages, hopes to raise £300,000 for a play area from toddlers to teens, including a BMX track and sensory walk way on the village playing fields.

However, for the moment it wants villagers to decide what the £120,000 from a lottery grant and landfill tax scheme should be spent on.

Committee member John Tissiman said: "We are trying to create something for everyone.

"We have very dilapidated play equipment on the playing fields so we need to get started now.

"We can't do everything we want at the moment but at least people can have an input into what they would like to see start first."

He added: "We hope to see a lot of people at the event. There are some 2,500 householders here and quite a range of social needs - we want to get people out and about and enjoying the countryside."

Mr Tissiman said there were plans to raise the remainder of the money by applying for grants and enlisting the support of businesses and the community.

The fun day will include a ball pool, jugglers, story tellers, stilt walkers, and computer simulated design.

It will be held at Cookley First School, Lea Lane, from 10am to 4pm. There will also be a barbecue at the Eagle and Spur pub.

For those who cannot make it on Saturday, an open evening will be held at the school from 6pm to 9pm tomorrow.
