I AM writing with regard to the chemists' opening rotas on Jubilee Bank Holiday Monday, June 3.

With a prescription provided by a primary care doctor, my wife and I needed the services, as an emergency, on the Monday of the Bank Holiday, only to discover that there was no chemist open on this day in either Stourport or Bewdley. There was only one available for just one hour in Kidderminster - namely, Boots in Coventry Street, from noon until 1pm.

Having arrived at noon, we were not surprised to find 25 other people awaiting the dispenser in front of us.

After obtaining our urgent needs we counted a further 30 still waiting for service.

The dispensing chemist and assistant were under considerable pressure and would obviously not complete their requirements until considerably after the 1pm scheduled closing time.

Our sincere thanks must be given to these two persons for their diligence and care under trying circumstances.

I do not know under what circumstances or organisation this medical cover is operated, whether it be official or voluntary, but the plain fact remains that this service in the three towns must be fully operated, otherwise the time may arise when non-provision could have fatal consequences.

I am pleased to say that my wife has had her operation which, we trust, will result in her complete recovery.
