HAVING a child attending, and living within a few hundred yards of Bewdley First School, I have an inherent interest in the proposed traffic control measures proposed for the town.

The original request was for simple and localised traffic control by St Anne's First and Middle schools and for pedestrian crossings on Wyre Hill and Cleobury Road, which I believe most reasonable people would endorse.

The proposed scheme is completely over-the-top and unnecessary and has been rejected by the people of Bewdley.

Town and district councillor Stephen Clee (Shuttle/Times & News, June 13) states that the new town council must discuss the implications of this vote and decide whether to reject the proposed scheme.

Excuse me? The town council's views, personal or otherwise, are largely irrelevant.

It is the duty of the council to represent the wishes of the people and reject the scheme.

It is called democracy. If any councillor finds that difficult, he/she should resign.

If the town council wants to do something useful, why does it not contact ministers at Whitehall to confirm whether the proposed scheme really is "all or nothing", rather than blindly take the word of Worcestershire County Council.

Finally, if anyone, town councillor, school governor or otherwise, wishes to drive around Bewdley at the proposed 20mph they may, of course, do so.

The current 30mph speed limit is maximum, not minimum.
