WORCESTER Racecourse was the venue for a number of amazing comebacks last night as the first evening meeting went off in style.
Ashgan bounced back from more than a year off to take the £6,000 added handicap chase.
He held off the challenge of Die Fledermaus quite comfortably while Chief Mouse came in third.
Continuing the comeback trend was Kaiserstolz who had not won a race for two years until last night's handicap hurdle.
A drop down the handicap and an extra half mile seemed to do the trick as he collected the victory in workmanlike style. Where Kaiserstolz goes from here, though, is still a mystery according to trainer Ian Williams.
"I was going to retire him if he had not won tonight. This was definitely his final chance as I thought he'd completely lost his confidence. But I think the extra trip and a patient ride have proved the answer and I don't really know what to do now."
Zaidaan took the selling handicap hurdle while Raise A Gale claimed victory in the novices' chase. Stage Direction was winner of the novices' claiming hurdle and War Tune was first past the post in the maiden hurdle.
