A SPECTACULAR maiden century by Jason Beck has earned him the Evening News/Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd. Cricketer of the Week award.

The 29-year-old plundered 140 during a 226-run partnership with Paul Mason (101no) as Kays beat Himbleton by 107 runs in the clubs' annual friendly.

Kays made a mammoth total of 304-4 with Russell Edwards following by taking 5-46 as the visitors were bowled out for 197.

Beck hit 12 sixes and 11 fours as he set about the Himbleton bowling with gusto and he reached his personal milestone with a six straight back over the bowler's head.

It was a satisfying way to pass the ton mark and Beck admitted he had been resolved not to spurn the opportunity of a debut century.

"I got dropped just before my 50 but after I reached it I hit a few fours and sixes and realised I was getting close to my century," he said.

"I asked how many I was on and somebody told me 89 so I thought there was no way I was going to chuck this chance away so I hit a couple of singles and fours and played safely."

However when he was on 95 Beck resumed his attacking ploy and smashed a straight six for his hundred.

"The ball was just there to be hit and I was catching it really well," he added.

Beck, who plays for Old Elizabethans on a Saturday, is also a useful footballer and last season proved equally adept with his feet as he hit 56 goals for Tolladine Sports.

His exploits with the bat have earned him a £40 voucher to spend at Duncan Fearnley Cricket Sales Ltd in Sherriff Street, Worcester, on some much-needed new boots.
