ANGRY parents have accused a Kidderminster school of scoring an own goal after it refused to allow pupils to watch tomorrow's crucial England v Brazil World Cup clash.
One woman, who did not wish to be named, said Sutton Park First School would not authorise the late arrival of children after watching the quarter- final, due to start at 7.30am, at home.
The match would not be screened at school, despite an offer from some parents to provide breakfasts.
The woman, whose son attends the school, said: "We're trying as parents to instil some national pride in our children and encourage an interest in sport - this is an opportunity missed.
"A group of us are very supportive of the school and everything it does. We are responsible parents."
She added parents wanting their children to view the match had been told if the school "give in on this we will have to give in on the Commonwealth Games to be held next month," a comment which she described as "ludicrous".
A spokesman for the LEA said it was a matter for individual headteachers and a number of schools across the county were boycotting the match. Sutton Park First School refused to comment.
