It's carnival time on the streets of Kidderminster on Saturday and more floats than for many years are to taking part.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to Brinton Park during the afternoon and line the streets to watch the colourful parade of floats as the procession sets off from the town's New Road car park at noon.

Last year 11 floats - the biggest number for many years - were in the procession and organisers are hopeful that this year's turnout will top that.

Carnival queen Laura Boswell will take centre stage accompanied by her princess Sophie Clegg and and rosebuds Cara Galloway and Kayleigh O'Donnell.

Attractions at Brinton Park will include children's entertainment from Andy's Magic and Steve Harley.

There will also be a fun fair, Cresta run, quad bikes, bouncy castle and miniature train rides.

Floral displays will be provided by Kidderminster Horticultural Society while for animal lovers there will be a dog show and rabbit show.

Scores of stalls and sideshows plus refreshments are also lined up.

Proceeds from the event including all the money raised from the street collection and sales of programmes will go towards providing a new youth club for autistic children and to Headway Wyre Forest for people who have sustained brain injuries.

Carnival chairman Colin Hill said: "We hope in this the Queen's Golden Jubilee Year the carnival will be extra special and provide a great day out for everyone.

"We are raising money for two very worthwhile causes and we hope people will show their usual generosity in supporting these and all the other charity stalls that will be there.

"We are just keeping our fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us and the sun will shine."
