CHIPPING Norton is the venue for a major festival of folk music this weekend.
The action is centred on the Town Hall and the Fox Hotel, both in the town centre.
It starts tomorrow (Friday) with a Midsummer Ice-Breaker Singaround in the Fox Hotel at 8pm under the watchful eye of MC Peter Allum.
Saturday sees a full day of folk music with the centrepiece being a lunchtime concert with Harvey Andrews, who has been writing his own songs, stories and monologues for 35 years.
In 1996 he was voted Canada's international artist of the year and has appeared on BBC's The Old Grey Whistle Test, done sessions for John Peel and a solo concert at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall.
He has produced 14 albums and artists such as Max Boyce, Mary Hopkin and Christy Moore have recorded his songs.
He performs at the Town Hall. Other events during the day include a fiddle workshop with the Oxford Fiddle Group, a Morris dance workshop by Charlbury Morris Men, songs and stories for children with Pippa Reid and an evening ceilidh.
The Fox that day hosts a charity singaround in aid of the London Road Centre for people with learning difficulties and there is also a gig by female duo Taggart and Wright.
Further information on the events is available from Bill Long on 01993 823984.
