BEN Stockdale won his first cycle race last Thursday evening while competing in the under-16 event at the Castle Coombe circuit in Wiltshire over a distance of eight miles.
This result is all the more impressive because the young Evesham Wheeler was competing alongside riders three years his senior. Brother Tom also had a successful evening with a first place in the under-10 category in the same race.
The Club Veteran Men's ten- mile record was updated in the Salisbury RC event at Andover. In wet but otherwise good conditions for racing, Brian Newton recorded 21 minutes 16 seconds for second place overall in the senior veteran's event.
Arja Scarsbrook was also successful by achieving third place overall in the ladies event with a time of 24.14. The following day, they rode the Clevedon R.C 50-mile event but suffered from the previous day's efforts and finished well down the result board.
Carol Hall led nine members of the B group of Sunday's club run to the Cleeve Hill golf course via Childswickham, Stanton and Winchcombe, returning through Teddington and Elmley Castle with 43 miles being covered.
Dave Purser led eight members of the A group to Prinknash Abbey situated between Gloucester and Stroud via Brockhampton, Whittington, Seven Springs and Brockworth.
The route back to Evesham passed through Birdlip, Chelten-ham and Gotherington.
