A LORRY driver was caught drink-driving after a woman begged him to give her a ride on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Stephen Scott, aged 40, was breathalysed by police after the female passenger was injured on the ride, and was found to be almost twice the drink-drive limit.

Scott, of Quisters, The Lyppards, Warndon Villages, Worcester, had been riding along City Walls Road on the evening of Tuesday, June 11, when the incident occurred, Worcester City Magistrates Court heard yesterday.

He admitted drink-driving.

Kiernan Cunningham, prosecuting, said police attended the scene of the accident and carried out a breath test.

The reading was 64mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, compared to the limit of 35mcg.

Rob Macrory said the offence would have catastrophic consequences for Scott, who would have to look for another job because of a driving ban.

He said he had had a drink at home and then another at the pub with a friend.

"Another friend then turned up - she said she had 'a mad thing for Harleys', and he obliged and took her for a ride on the back," said Mr Macrory.

He said Scott had no idea he was over the limit. Magistrates banned Scott for 18 months and fined him £200 with £55 costs.
