A VICAR will be braving the elements when she takes to the roof of her Worcester church in a bid to raise vital funds to fix it.
The Rev Janet House is hoping the weather will be kind when she sleeps on top of St Matthew's Church, in Ronkswood, in a bid to contribute towards its £30,000 repair costs.
The distinctive building, known locally as the drum because of its shape, needs drastic work to the roof and cladding, which is currently peeling and falling apart.
The vicar of Holy Trinity and St Matthew's Church will snuggle into her sleeping bag tomorrow with the congregation preparing a slap-up meal and maintaining a watch throughout the night.
"I don't mind being up there, but I am not looking forward to going up or coming down," said a slightly nervous Mrs House.
The sleepover is the start of a major fund-raising initiative by the congregation to bring the church back to its best.
