A DELEGATION of visiting Americans stopped off at County Hall to see democracy in action in Worcester.

The group of five teachers were given a tour of the council chamber and discussed education with Julien Kramer, Worcestershire County Council's director of education.

Bishop Perowne CE High School organised the visit as they are spending a week with the Merriman's Hill school.

It is part of a link developed with Indiana University involving university students carrying out their teaching practice in the UK. Worcester teachers also have the opportunity to visit the US.

"We can see and reflect on practices in different schools," said headteacher Peter Warner.

"We're seeing what we can learn from each other. They've had a very good week and enjoyed themselves and the students have enjoyed having them."

The exchange also involves St Barnabas CE Primary School on Green Lane and St George's CE Primary School on St George's Lane North.

The teachers also visited the Royal Worcester Porcelain works, Worcester Cathedral and Stratford-upon-Avon during their stay.
