MALVERN'S Antony Lampitt saved his best for the last when athletes from all over the counties of Hereford and Worcester converged on Worcester Sports Centre at Nunnery Wood last Saturday to contest the District Finals.
Antony, the current county champion in the combined events, represented Malvern District in the 200 metres and javelin competition.
In the 200m, Antony was far from his best and did not qualify for the final. In the javelin event Antony was lying in the top six after three throws and qualified for a further three throws. Up to the last round Antony was in fourth position, with nothing to lose and summoning all of his strength and concentration, he threw a personal best of 43.24 metres in the final round to win the competition and become county champion.
Antony will now represent Hereford and Worcester in the javelin at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham tomorrow (Saturday) in the Mason Trophy.
The following weekend, Antony will again represent Hereford and Worcester as county champion in the combined events regional finals in Derby at the Moorways Stadium.
