A most successful weekend was enjoyed last week at Acton Beauchamp. On Saturday evening St Giles', main fundraising event of the year, the fun dog show and barbecue was held at The Woottons by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Morris. It was a great success with lots of dogs, owners and spectators all enjoying the evenings activities. As well as the dog show there were many stalls and games and a thoroughly good evening was had by all.
At the Three Counties Show several of our younger parish members also enjoyed success. They belong to the Saltmarsh branch of the Young Farmers' Club, which, with only 21 members, not only came fifth in the main exhibition, but won the cup for the highest number of points collected by under 15s. Most of the classes are open to all Young Farmers within the three counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire under the age of 26, so we are delighted to give the following results.
Emily Morris, age 15, won a first in the senior vegetable animal; Evan Hughes 11, came first in the junior vegetable animal and Verity Watts, 15, came second. A team of three youngsters, Antony Morris, 11, Edward Morris, 12, and Chris Watts, 12, competed together to win the human scarecrow competition and Emma Miles, 14, won the street entertainer competition. Very well done.
Our next event will be the opening of several of the gardens at Acton Beauchamp on Sunday, June 30, from 11am to 4pm, admission 50p a garden, in aid of St Giles' Church Building Repair Fund. There will be plants for sale, home made cakes and teas and strawberries and cream.
