THE Friends of Bosbury School (FOBS) have rearranged their summer fair. Please note this will now take place on Friday, June 28, from 5pm-7pm, on the school playing field. All the usual attractions are planned including a cake stall and tombola. Last year's successful Alphabet Zoo stall has been completely redesigned as the Tumble Down Farm display. An early visit to purchase your lucky ticket will avoid disappointment. Entry forms for designing a T-shirt to commemorate the village Jubilee celebrations have been circulated to all the pupils. Why not start the weekend in style and bring all the family to the barbecue. The cooks will be serving from 5pm.
Newly-appointed church warden Lynne Ardrey hopes to put Holy Trinity Bosbury firmly on the tourist trail. Next February, her display of books, letters and other memorabilia of the Victorian novelist Edna Lyell go on display at Hereford Museum. Ada Bayly, who wrote under the name of Edna Lyell, came to Bosbury to stay with her brother the Reverend R Bruges Bayly, then vicar at Holy Trinity. Her 1901 novel In Spite of All is set in and around Bosbury. Although the books are now out of print her readers included Queen Victoria, William Gladstone and John Ruskin. Ada Bayly died in 1903 and her ashes were interred in the grave next to Bosbury's well-known preaching cross.

At the public meeting in the parish hall last Monday the Jubilee Playground Committee presented their proposal for a children's play area for under 12s. Although they had considered other sites, they felt the area in front of the parish hall was the most suitable. Some concerns were raised over road safety, the difficulty of supervising the eight to 12 year olds and the limited nature of the site for providing sufficient equipment for the age range five-12. However, the majority of those present felt that the parish hall site was the most suitable. The Jubilee Playground Committee will now submit detailed submissions to the parish hall committee and the parish council.
