Record of the Week - Basement Jaxx - Get Me Off (XL)
This is a dirty dance ditty from the Jaxx boyz, distorted by a fat bass.
Taken from their acclaimed album Rooty, the single includes the Jaxx's own radio and club mixes as well as a remix from Peaches and another from Superchumbo. Magnificent stuff.
Muse Dead Star/In Your World (Mushroom)
Muse make a welcome return with this energy-charged double-A side.
Both songs reveal the band's Radiohead influences but have a bit more guts than Thom Yorke's introspective numbers.
After the angsty Dead Star, flip over for In Your World, which is punchy and frantic with lots of dipping and diving.
Ben Christophers Transatlantic Shooting Stars (V2)
A meandering number which may not hit the adrenaline spot but is still a pleasant listen.
More chill than thrill.
Lemonescent Beautiful (Supertone/Universal)
Starts off promising, with atmospheric strings with a hint of Irish flavouring, but then unaccountably goes all Eurovision.
