Langland's community warden is expected to be in post by August.
Roy Bond, of Elgar Housing Association, which will employ the new official, told members of Malvern Police/Community Consultative Group on Wednesday that it had received quite a few applications for the job.
The role has been funded for two years as part of a Community Safety Partnership scheme, but Mr Bond was keen to point out that the person employed would not be a "substitute police officer".
He or she will have a more observational and reporting role but will be able to deal with issues such as vandalism.
Mr Bond said: "Certainly by August we hope that we will see the person, whoever that is, walking the streets of Langland."
"We will have somebody there able and willing and with the skills to come forward and say I saw that person doing that ."
