WITH reference to cruel cats (M G Jackson, Your Letters, June 14), the obvious solution to the problem of domestic cats catching birds is to fit them with a collar with a bell attached. From personal experience I have found this works perfectly.

As for the suggestion this problem needs tackling in the same manner as the proposed ban on hunting, the majority of people have the intelligence to understand that it is unnecessary to hunt beautiful British wildlife which is a heritage to be proud of.
