COLWALL disappointingly let the game slip with a one wicket league defeat on Saturday at Devizes despite Pete Thomas' five wicket haul.

DEVIZES v COLWALL

Batting first again Colwall's total of 153-6 was thanks mainly to Dave Powell's patient gritty 50 runs as the bowlers dominated on a slow pitch and poor outfield. Powell's slow but crucial runs formed the base of Colwall's assault sharing an impressive 61 partnership with Pete Butler.

The latter fell to the pick of the bowlers Vooght (1-34 off 15) for 24 and double figure contributions from Pete Thomas, Lee Hankins and Mark Shouler edged the visitors to the mediocre total in their 50 overs.

Colwall restricted Devizes to only 65 runs in the first 30 overs as Dave Sutton tore through much of the top order to collect excellent figures of 4-29 off 15.

Good early spells from Pete Thomas and Josh Hornyold kept runs to a minimum and only Colyer's top score of 38 kept Devizes in the game before he too, was dismissed by Pete Butler's well taken catch for Thomas' second wicket.

The Australian went on to secure a fine 5-51 and was well supported by Fred Conein's sharp, but unrewarded, 14 overs. Colwall's grip on the game loosened however as Vooght's 25 and tail ender Sinclair's 17 ensured 48 were put on for the final two wickets a Devizes' late surge on the total paid off.

With wet conditions ensuing in the final few overs though Colwall let the game slip away with Butler's missed catch at the death allowing the home side to creep home by a single wicket.
