A SPECIAL charity night is being organised by a Malvern rock'n'roll dance group in memory of a fellow enthusiast who died a year ago.
The event at Hanley Castle High School next Saturday (June 29) is being held by Malvern Crepes and Drapes in honour of the memory of Bruce Bennett. Although he hailed from Oxford, Mr Bennett was well known to many in the current West Midlands rock'n'roll scene.
"People come to the Malvern dances from all over the place," organiser Keith Smith explained. "South Wales, Oxford and all over."
Class of '58 will be belting out hits from the likes of Elvis Presley, Billy Fury and Eddie Cochran, with DJ Dave from South Wales on the decks.
The Malvern organisation has been finding its feet this year after a period of turmoil with present organisers, Keith and Mary Smith and Keith and Shirley Russell, currently getting settled in.
The group originally got together 12 years ago after taking part in a charity "jailbreak".
It has since raised tens of thousands of pounds for local charities, attracting up to 150 people to each event.
A bumper raffle will also be held at Saturday's event, with all profits to be donated to cystic fibrosis charities.
Doors open at 7.30pm and dancers are invited to bring their own drinks as there is no bar. No children under 14. Admission is £5.
