RUSSIAN piano prodigy Freddie Kempf will be the main attraction at Wyastone, near Monmouth, next weekend.

The virtuoso, who at 10 was the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, is appearing in three recitals from Friday (June 28) to Sunday (June 30).

On Friday, he will give a solo performance of works by Bach, Schubert and Ravel at 7.30pm, while on Saturday he heads the Kempf Piano Trio, with violist Pierre Bensaid and cellist Alexander Chaushian. They will be performing works by Beethoven and Shostakovich at 7.30pm, preceded by a pre-concert talk about life as a concert pianist.

On Sunday, an extra member joins the trio to make up the Kempf Piano Quartet, performing works by Brahms and Faur at 2.30pm.

Tickets start at £10, available on 01684 560696.
