Tramp - Trapped on the Tracks and Lost in the Caves by Chris Cooper, (Puffin, £3.99 each)
I have a problem. I have a seven-year-old daughter who was first inspired to read a proper book by the Harry Potter phenomenon.
In just a matter of weeks she had read all four books but no other reading matter came up to her expectations.
Then along came Tramp.
Tramp is a canine hero. Not of Potter proportions - I grant you - but a hero offering solace in the form of some gripping adventures with the added appeal of the animal world.
In a nice, big typeface for easy reading, the book is illustrated with some fine line drawings.
There is plenty of detail so young readers are not left wondering about the nitty-gritty things that tend to bother them.
Cooper writes with pace and excitement evoking a world of the loyal animal with his young master, Joe, always at the forefront of his thoughts.
Think of Lassie and weep. Perfect for adventure-loving six to eight year-olds looking for a good read.
