TWO Worcestershire teachers are in line for gold stars of their own when they attend a regional awards ceremony.

The West Midlands heat of the BT Teaching Awards takes place next month.

Pamela Tildesley, headteacher at Westlands CE First School in Droitwich, and Anna Streather, a teacher at St Gabriel's with St Mary's CE Primary in Hanley Swan, near Malvern, have been shortlisted for the awards.

Mrs Tildesley is up for the Leadership Trust Award for school leadership in a primary school and Mrs Streather could be crowned primary school teacher of the year.

"It's quite touching that people think of me in such a positive way," said Mrs Tildesley.

"It's a wonderful team to lead. I'm flattered with the nomination."

Mrs Tildesley has been head at the school for six years but is no stranger to the competition. Last year she accompanied Debbie Prigg to the regional finals where she won the prize for special needs teaching.

"It's important that the school shows itself in its true light - we've got wonderful teachers, parents and children here."

Mrs Streather, is also flattered by the experience.

"I've gone through a whole range of emotions," she said.

"I feel very honoured that the school community has felt that I'm worthy of being nominated and shortlisted."

Mrs Streather teaches a mixed year class of seven to nine-year-olds. She also teaches science to the nine to 11-year-olds in the school.

Mrs Streather also runs three after school clubs, including rugby, rounders and athletics.

"I see the nomination as something for the whole school," she said.

"I couldn't be as I am without the support of the staff, governors, parents and children.

"I'm really looking forward to the ceremony, but I'm very nervous."

The winners will be announced in a ceremony at the University of Birmingham on Wednesday, July 5.

They will receive a £2,000 cash prize for the school as well as £1,000 of latest computer equipment.

The regional winners go on to the national final in October.
