WORCESTERSHIRE golfers Jeremy Robinson and Herefordshire's David Park both missed the halfway cut in the Great North Open at Slaley Hall.

Robinson, from Evesham, failed by one shot after a second round of 74 for a total of 148.

Hereford's Park, who won his only European tour title on the same course three years ago, was two shots further back after a 78 yesterday.

Sven Struver, the 34-year-old German, took a one-shot lead over Spaniard Diego Borrego into today's third round.

After a sparkling seven-birdie 65 yesterday, Struver is on course for the £100,000 first prize from a tournament he admits he did not really want to enter.

He is taking part only because his wife Stephanie told him to. She gave birth 10 weeks ago and in addition to being unwell herself their new baby son Johan has been suffering from cholic.

"He's awake from nine in the evening until about three in the morning and I've been getting about three hours sleep a night," said Struver.

"We also have a daughter who wants entertaining from eight o'clock in the morning and I actually didn't want to come, but my wife said 'go away and get some sleep'."

After catching up in that department - he was out for 11 and a half hours on Tuesday night -- Struver missed equalling Australian Richard Green's course record by just one stroke in the second round.

He is only 135th on this season's Order of Merit, but knew that as a three-time winner on the European tour it could be a big week.
