I HAVE just returned from a holiday in Greece where the euro has been the currency of the country for almost six months.

I met friends from both Greece and Germany. Like ourselves, when we went decimalised and experienced associated problems (inflation and so on), they are suffering the same problems in their countries. Inflation is around 40 to 50 per cent. Nobody I spoke to wants the euro.

Unlike ourselves ,though, petrol in Greece is still under 60p a litre.

Beware - when the pound is worth one euro we will be in. You have been warned!

For the record, in January this year, the pound was worth 1.6 euros. Now it is trading around 1.56.
