JON Burgess's reading matter is his own affair. If he chooses to read ambiguous reports, that is his business.

He can be patronising as he likes and produce as many euphemisms as he likes, but it does not disguise the fact that foxes and hares are killed in a brutal manner.

He admits that followers enjoy watching the hounds at work, so they must enjoy cruelty. What an admission.

My point, that seems to escape him, about actually seeing around 70 riders on massive horses, plus a pack of hounds, is that there is a number of people who see absolutely nothing wrong with such a show of force against one poor fox. If, as he says, the number and size of horses does not make any difference to the outcome, why do they do it?

However, it is refreshing that Mr Burgess admits, albeit grudgingly, that there are wagers on the outcome at hare coursing meetings.
