ACIDIC soil found in the Wyre Forest has set the theme for the Forestry Commission's county tree collection.
The future development of Wyre Forest's arboretum was decided on after a visit by experts from the world-famous Westonbirt Arboretum.
The two-hectare site is to be given a facelift, a new path network and a role as the home of Worcestershire's collection of sorbus trees.
"Special scientific tests showed that the pH of our soil was just right for sorbus trees, rowans and whitebeams," said forest craftsman Albert Link.
"Like all trees from the sorbus family, they have beautiful flowers in early summer and brightly-coloured leaves and clusters of berries in autumn. I can't wait to see a few more added to our collection."
The land will now have to be prepared for the new additions.
