A WORCESTER festival of arts, crafts and culture has received a welcome boost from the National Lottery with a £5,000 grant from Awards for All.
This year's Stanley Road Funpac festival, celebrating Worcester's cultural diversity, will last three days, starting on Wednesday, July 10.
Children and adults from Stanley Road Primary School, Perryfields Day Centre, Unity House, Thornton House School and Horizon Youth Club will take part in activities on the theme of "fire".
They will try drumming with local group Drum Love, learn to play the gamelan, a Far Eastern folk instrument, and sing along with folk singer Wynde Bagge using Breton instruments.
Puppets
They will hear about creation myths from different cultures with storyteller Katrice Horsley, watch a puppet show by Golden Butterfly and enjoy Afro-Caribbean songs and drama with Sistertree.
Then there will be classical Indian music from Candida Connolly, break dancing, and the chance for pupils to paint a mural in Stanley Road School with the help of Worcester Arts Workshop.
This is the third Funpac event to be held in Stanley Road after the first multicultural festival in 2000 was a "phenomenal" success.
"We are thrilled to get this award and excited that Funpac will go ahead for the third successive year," said organiser Anna Lewis.
"It's becoming a regular event in the Worcester calendar."
