100 years ago - March 15 1902

THOMAS Pratt, a labourer of Norton and Lenchwick, was charged with being drunk and disorderly on the highway on March 1. PC Hancock stated that at a quarter past ten, he saw the defendant in Norton, drunk and staggering about in the road and wanting to fight somebody. He had his coat and waistcoat off and was using very bad language. Fined 5s and 5s 6d costs.

March 12 1927

LOCAL followers of football will note with interest the selection of Mr Rowland Craddock, of Bengeworth, as linesman for the FA Cup Semi-Final at Wolverhampton between Cardiff City and Reading on March 26. This is the second time that Mr Craddock has been honoured in FA Cup ties this season.

March 15 1952

THE cul-de-sac off Fairfield Road in Hampton is to be called Hemming Way, in honour of the late Alderman James Hemming, a Hampton man and former Mayor of Evesham. This was decided by the general purposes committee of Evesham Town Council on Wednesday. The suggestion was made by councillor E A Andrews, one of Hampton's representatives.

MR Hugh Greenhalf completed a 25-hour sponsored organ recital at Honeybourne parish church at the weekend. Bystanders kept him supplied with soup and sandwiches as he played ancient and modern hymns from 7.30am on Saturday to 8.30am on Sunday. Proceeds are expected to go towards new prayer and hymn books.
