AT the monthly meeting of the committee of Pershore Cottage Hospital held on Wednesday, it was decided to have an electric bell connecting the hospital with Mr A W Smith's residence in Broad Street, so that in case of any unusual occurrence an alarm could be given and any assistance that is required could be obtained.

February 19 1927

SIR James Curtis, a former resident of Ashton-under-Hill, resigned from the Birmingham Board of Guardians after 45 years service in connection with the Poor law and local government. Mr Curtis, who had the post of clerk and solicitor to the Board, resigned from his position on Wednesday. It is not yet known who will take over in his position.

February 23 1952

A MEMORIAL service for King George VI took place at St Lawrence's Church in Evesham at 11 o' clock last Friday. There was a fairly large congregation and the service was read by the Vicar, the Rev Canon T Charles Jones with a special lesson read by the Rev P E Blagdon-Gamlen. The hymns O God, our help in ages past and Abide with me were sung. At the conclusion of the service, Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Mr Douglas Alcock.

FOUR Vale schools could face closure if the county education committee is unable to reach its target of £2.3m cuts when it meets on March 7. The closure of schools with fewer than 50 pupils is just one of the few economies being considered by the education priorities working party who have a crucial meeting on Monday.
