100 years ago - January 18, 1902
HENRY Huxley, a labourer of Wickhamford, was charged with being drunk and refusing to quit licensed premises at Badsey, and with doing wilful damage to a window on January 1. PC Merritt stated that prisoner was in gaol, having been committed by a borough magistrate.
75 years ago - January 15 1927
ON Monday and Tuesday the Salvation Army entertained 220 of the poorest children in Evesham and Bengeworth to tea. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and afterwards, a singing competition was arranged and presents given to the winners. On leaving, each child was given an orange and a toy.
50 years ago - January 19 1952
THE "very serious financial position" of the Evesham Allotments and Gardens Association was referred to at their annual meeting on Wednesday by Mr L Shovelton. Criticising the annual accounts - "at the risk of being unpleasant" - he pointed out that £46 18s 8d had been lost on shows during the year, that this represented 4s 2d per member, and that it could not go on.
25 years ago - January 20 1977
WILLMOTTS, one of Evesham's best known firms, and the largest manufacturers of metal cases in the world, is expecting to be taken over within the next month. Discussions for the take-over have been taking place with the management of U.K.O International Limited, a leading company in the ophthalmic industry.
