100 years ago - April 12, 1902

A VERY successful Ping Pong tournament took place in Pershore's Music Hall on Tuesday afternoon and evening, the proceeds of which was nearly £2, which will be divided between the Working Lads' and Girls' Clubs recently started in the town. There were three events and the winners all received prizes.

April 9 1927

FRANCIS William Freeth, 26, a farm labourer of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six months hard labour for breaking into the refreshment room at Honeybourne Station on March 27 and stealing cigarettes and other articles to the value of 10s. The prisoner said he had no intention of doing wrong, but was tempted to break into the shop because he was out of work and had no home. There was a list of previous convictions, but none since May 1925.

April 12 1952

WORCESTERSHIRE Education Committee was told at its meeting in Worcester on Saturday that the erection of an Evesham Secondary Modern School had been approved by the Ministry as part of the committee's revised building programme for 1952-53. The project has been transferred from the 1951-52 programme.

HONEYBOURNE Youth Club is putting itself on the map on Sunday, when 25 of its members are attempting sponsored walks up to 20 miles. The young people, aged from 10-16, will start walking from the village hall at 8.30am to raise funds for the club. They can choose a target of four of five miles or go for a longer stretch of about 20 miles. Organisers said that the walk was to give children a challenge and a sense of achievement.
