PETER Telfer suggests that broken slats on riverside benches should be repaired (You Say, June 13).

In bygone civilised times, every reasonable person would have agreed with such a request.

However, we must remember that these seats beside the Severn were of sturdy construction. They need to be repaired because of the depredations of mindless morons.

If repairs take place, these worthless people will simply wreak the damage all over again.

Taking into consideration the appalling times in which we live, the council may as well save a bit of council tax payers' money and do nothing about the seats.

D E MARGRETT,

Worcester.
