PAGERS look set to be provided to 100 Redditch farmers in a pioneering initiative aimed at fighting rural crime.

The revolutionary idea has come from Redditch police and will be the first project of its kind in the country if it goes ahead.

The pagers will allow information about any crimes committed on or near farms to be passed on quickly between farmers and the police.

Pc Richard Waterhouse said the pagers could be used to inform farmers about an incident which may have just happened on a farm.

He said the main crimes committed were thefts of equipment such as plant, vehicles and horse tack.
