A DROITWICH swimmer has fought off competition from across the West Midlands to win a gold medal.
Kim Briggs, a pupil at the town's high school, in Briar Mill, finished first in the 100m freestyle at the npower Active Regional Swimming Competition in Wolverhampton on Sunday.
Organised by the West Midlands region of the English Federation of Disability Sport, Kim was joined by a record 180 swimmers with physical, learning and visual impairments.
Athletes aged ten to 50 years-old came from across the West Midlands to compete in 62 events.
The npower Active programme, which runs throughout the year, provides wider opportunities for people with physical or learning disabilities to get involved with sport.
Regional Development Manager for the EFDS, Dennis Hodgkins, said: "This year's competition was the biggest and best ever. We had a record number of events and competitors - making the day a huge success."
