SIX Droitwich Spa schoolgirls have every reason to be proud after being selected to represent the Midlands at athletics.
Vikki Hume, Alexandra Smith-Maxwell, Marissa Maciej, Hannah Kimber, Chloe Hill and Charlotte Bury, are competing in the Independent Schools' Association National Athletics Championships today (Wednesday).
The girls, all from Whitford Hall and Dodderhill School, in Crutch Lane, earned the right after winning the U17s intermediate girls' section of the ISA Midland senior athletic championship on Wednesday, June 19.
The team took first place and 20 points clear of their nearest rival.
Vikki Hume won the discus and shot, Alexandra Smith-Maxwell won the 80m hurdles and Marissa Maciej finished first in the 300m.
Hannah Kimber was third and fourth respectively in the javelin and 100m while Chloe Hill came home third in the 200m.
Fifth place in the high jump and fourth in the long jump went to Charlotte Bury and the relay team won the 4x100m.
Headteacher Joan Mumby said: "This is a superb achievement, especially given that the girls were at the lower end of the age range in their section and that we are only a school of 220."
