AS there is some doubt as to the safety and hygiene aspect of Hewell Road Swimming Baths, it is obvious Redditch is in urgent need of a new swimming pool.
This urgency is about 30 years overdue as many times the pool has been repaired or upgraded and it is an imperial size where it should be metric.
The ideal site for a new pool would be the Bridley Moor High School site as it would be situated close to three schools and the Redditch Rugby, Cricket and Tennis Club, which I understand is going to be upgraded by developers.
This ground has a special meaning to the people of Batchley as it was the brainchild of the late Councillor Frank Cardy, who was a Batchley resident and was much respected by everyone in Redditch.
I was born in Redditch and have been a Batchley resident for 50 years so I implore the council to get its act together and make sure we get to keep a swimming pool in Batchley.
There has been a Redditch Swimming Club for more than 100 years and its training facilities are abysmal.
If and when the Abbey Stadium is ever developed to a state-of-the-art sports complex, I still think the pool would be better at Bridley Moor, leaving more space for the other wonderful facilities that are supposed to be going on the Abbey ground.
