WINYATES Green biker Andy Burbidge is just one signature away from securing his national licence after strengthening his grip on the EMRA Championship at the weekend.
The young rider claimed an impressive one-two at Mallory Park to increase his lead in the club championship to 44 points.
Championship rival Tony Meredith was left fuming on the sidelines after failing to complete his paperwork to enter the latest round.
Burbidge took his chance by winning the first race despite carrying two broken ribs and torn ligaments in his left knee.
Minutes before the start, the young ace discovered his front end was buckled after a recent crash at Cadwell Park.
But despite problems cornering, the youngster, sponsored by Hytera Racing, hung on and only lost the second race by four hundredths of a second from Adrian Busby.
The two finishes secured the penultimate signature Burbidge needs for a national licence and mean he only needs a top seven finish in the final five rounds of the EMRA Roadstock Challenge to win the title.
Burbidge was hoping to enter the Cadwell Park round of the New Era series at the weekend but has been forced to withdraw because it was oversubscribed.
He is set to return to action on Sunday, July 7 in the Snetterton round of the same series and is hoping to end his quest for a licence.
