SOMETHING distinctly fishy has been going on down at Arrow Valley Lake recently.
Passers-by may have noticed two men with fishing rods landing fish as if they were going out of style.
Onlookers may be forgiven for thinking the men were two brazen, daylight poachers but in fact, it is only park warden John Lewis and a fishing friend of his checking the fish for diseases.
Most of the fish caught were bream, carp, roach and rudd, which were introduced to the lake two years ago and, according to Mr Lewis, the stocks look good.
It was also discovered that perch were also present and reports have been received about pike being sighted.
"Fish spawn can be carried by all types of water fowl," explained Mr Lewis. "That could explain the appearance of these other fish."
"It is expected that stocks of fish in the lake will be high enough next year to begin allowing fishermen to visit it."
