GRASSTRACK fans were treated to a superb performance by 500cc sidecar duo Chris Salisbury and Gary Hughes as they bagged four out of four at Hindlip.

The Worcester double act claimed four wins from four races at the Worcestershire Winner meeting as they prepared for the European Championships.

After racing, the crew thanked club members Alan and Craig Doughty for lending them a wheel, without which they would have had to pull out of the event.

For the first time in more than 20 years, 1000cc sidecars raced in the city and spectators were rewarded with some real drama as double winning Australian sidecar speedway champion, Darren Treloar just failed to take the first prize despite this being his first ever grasstrack.

Solo racing was just as spectacular with previous Hindlip winner Paul Cooper, of York, and Cumbrian Jason Handley going head to head. Cooper took the 350 event title when Handley suffered a puncture in the final. Handley, however, claimed victory in the 500 class later.

Hereford's Matt Klassen was second in the 250s, while Worcestershire club captain Mark Taylor's younger brother Neil was runner up in the 350 event.

Nigel Newman finished fourth in the pre-75 final and Malvern's Tony Starke/ Darren Wood came fifth in the 500 sidecar final after taking a spin while holding second.
