POLICE in Bromsgrove are driving forward a new initiative to slash car crime.
The Community Safety Team will spend the next three months investigating all aspects of vehicle crime in the area and encouraging the public to keep their property safe.
Sgt Brian Russell, who is heading the team, said: "We all have a role to play in reducing auto crime and I would urge everyone to take just a few simple steps to secure their vehicle.
"This includes removing all items of value from your car, parking in a safe place and making sure you lock the door and close all windows - even if you are only popping off for a minute to pay for petrol or go to the ticket machine.
"We shall be working with our criminal analysts to identify the areas being targeted by thieves, then we shall carry out high profile patrols of these areas."
Police have received sponsorship from Stoplock and will be selling the devices, which clamp the steering wheel in place, at discounted prices. Officers will also distribute leaflets in the town to raise the profile of crimes committed in the area and to offer advice for other car users.
