A RUBERY rock writer is ready to get his show on the high road to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

MG Rover design engineer Giovanni Esposito has a busy summer ahead on the stage with his Black Country Rock musical.

It's returning to the Crescent Theatre - where it proved a hit last year - as part of the Birmingham International Festival from July 22 to July 27.

Then he's taking the cast of 14 and the backstage crew of six to the Bedlam Theatre in Edinburgh for the prestigious Fringe from August 5 to 10 - all with the help of the Bromsgrove Advertiser/Messenger.

"I sent a video of the show and the review from the Advertiser with a collection of cuttings to theatres in Edinburgh," said the 38-year-old father-of-two from Cliff Rock Road.

"They went for it and I had a choice of three who wanted to put it on."

Giovanni took two years to write the script and the music, which ranges from jazz and blues to techno, for the story of wannabe rock star George.

It's set in the Seventies with Longbridge car works as a backdrop and stars musicians and actors from the Birmingham area, including his 11-year-old daughter, Francesca.

His wife, Claudia, has helped with the costumes and eight-year-old son Zachary has watched every production.

"It's a big show to take to Edinburgh but I'm hoping it will be worth it," said Giovanni, who has given up playing with Beatles tribute band, the Prefab Four, to concentrate on his musical. And this is just the opening act for him - he's writing two new works and he's also had interest from a professional producer who wants to put on Black Country Rock at the Alexandra Theatre, in Birmingham, next year with Noddy Holder as narrator.
