BROMSGROVE Rovers are hoping to beat Conference side Hereford United to the signature of former Green Mark Benbow.
Benbow, who can play anywhere in midfield, played at the Victoria Ground when Rovers were in the Western division in 2001, and has recently returned from a spell in Australia.
Joint manager Gary Hackett knows what Benbow, also talking to the Edgar Street outfit, could offer the side but he will not be rushing into anything.
Hackett said: "He (Benbow) would be a useful asset without a doubt.
"There are still a few spare places in the squad but we won't panic and we will wait for the right player to come along."
Benbow is one of two Rovers targets who Hackett and Jon Ford are looking to bring in as the management look to finalise their squad for the Dr Martens Western campaign.
Pre-season training starts on Saturday, July 6 and Rovers play their first friendly against Premiership new boys West Bromwich Albion two weeks later.
Hackett said: "We are talking to a couple of players but our main priority has been getting our players from last season together."
