A WYCHBOLD archer has struck gold after firing his way to victory in the Channel Islands.

Nigel Watts, of Chequers Lane, won the indoor section of the Jersey Triple archery competition earlier this month.

The three-day event was made up of three sections and Nigel finished fourth in each of the other two, leaving him in fourth place overall.

Nigel, aged 35, said: "It was a bit of a surprise to win the indoor but I am pleased with the way I shot."

To win the indoor event, Nigel had to shoot five lots of 12 arrows, scoring between six and ten points each time he hit the target.

He scored 571 points in total, which left him eight clear of his nearest contender in the 11-strong field.

Nigel, who shoots for Malvern Archers, has been involved with the sport for four and a half years and already has four trophies to his name by winning events across Worcestershire.
