A SALFORD Priors pensioner has been praised for foiling the plans of a potential distraction burglar when she refused to let him into her house.

A man knocked on the window of an elderly woman's home in School Road at 3pm on Saturday and told her to come to her door.

He claimed her female neighbour was having trouble with her washing machine and so he needed to cut the lady's water supply off.

But the woman he targeted said she did not have a female living next door and told him to go away.

As he was leaving, the woman noticed two men crouching behind bushes at the corner of School Road.

The man who approached the pensioner's window was wearing a creamy yellow shirt and had an accent of some description.

In September last year, police dealt with four distraction burglaries in and around the Alcester area within two weeks and warned people to be vigilant.

Anybody with information about the incident can call Alcester Police on 01926 415000.
