DRIVERS who continue to use bus-only routes in Redditch town centre could now come up before magistrates, police have warned.

The get-tough move comes 18 months after traffic bans were enforced along Church Green and Unicorn Hill to allow the temporary bus station to operate.

Three weeks ago, the Redditch Advertiser reported police were clamping down on offenders and since then, a total of 68 tickets have been handed out - 33 £30 fixed penalty fines were issued in just 90 minutes.

But Pc Rob Thomas, of the road safety unit, said despite the crackdown, motorists were still driving through the prohibited areas.
