FIVE schools have been included in a countrywide pilot scheme giving children a chance for a healthy start in life.
Batchley First, Beoley First, Holyoakes Field First, Inkberrow First and Feckenham First schools have joined 1,800 others across the region by taking part in the fruit pilot scheme promoting improved health among four to seven year olds by giving them a free piece of fruit every day.
The £42 million New Opportunities Fund scheme means children can tuck into a range of fruit, including apples, pears, satsumas and bananas which are believed to help prevent cancer, heart disease and strokes.
