DEAR EDITOR -

Your lead story recently is another example of the madness of Bromsgrove District Council.

They are considering having the pedestrianised area of the High Street cleaned of chewing gum, although to quote Mr Moody three months after it is cleaned it is covered in gum again.

Dear Mr Moody this is the nature of cleaning, ask Mrs Moody.

I doubt that she cleaned your house once and has not done it since!!

It, like all housework and other cleaning tasks, has to be done on a regular basis.

However this attitude does explain why we so seldom see street cleaners in Sidemoor.

Because as you all know it will only be as bad again.

All the other towns around us are working to keep their streets clean and that is where people are going to shop, rather than coing to Bromsgrove, which has this strange attitude about keeping the streets of the town clean.

The final lunacy was the statement that McDonalds, which whatever you think of its produce, instead of being used as an example to other shopkeepers in the town may not be allowed to keep on cleaning up on their own doorstep as the area is owned by the council.

As for the fact that the council could not afford to have the High Street steam cleaned, pity about the bandstand.

We who live here, who were ignored in this matter, might have preferred a clean shopping area to celebrate the Jubilee.
