A WORCESTER woman coming to terms with the loss of five friends and relations and the murder of her neighbour hit a police officer on a night out.
Michelle Wealthall had not left home for four months following the murder, but ventured out to go drinking on Friday, May 31.
Worcester magistrates heard the 26-year-old got very drunk and aggressive.
"PC James Fox was approached by a motorist who directed him to Tramps nightclub where a couple were involved in an argument," said Sally Hill, prosecuting.
"He found Michelle Wealthall in the company of a man who was standing over her shouting aggressively.
"She looked upset so the officer tried to intervene."
After further shouting, the man walked away and PC Fox went towards him.
"He was suddenly grabbed around the shoulders by Wealthall who told him to leave the man alone," Mrs Hill said.
"She was being particularly aggressive and lashed out, striking him on the chin.
"He called for assistance as he feared he was going to be attacked further.
"He thought he would have to use his CS spray but she stumbled and he got hold of her."
Wealthall, of Woolhope Rise, Woolhope Road, Battenhall, admitted being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.
"She's embarrassed and upset it took place," said Nick Roberts, defending.
"It's culmination of a rather depressing period of her life.
"She's lost five friends and relations in a short period of time.
"Her next-door neighbour, who she was close to, was murdered.
"It's had a psychological effect on her - she didn't leave the house for four months.
"This was the first time she ventured out with her boyfriend.
"Drinks were cheap and she was very drunk. She's thoroughly ashamed."
Magistrates conditionally discharged Wealthall for 12 months.
She was fined £175 for the assault and ordered to pay £75 compensation.
She was also ordered to pay £55 costs.
