FORMER Stourport Hockey Club star Laura Price has been appointed captain of the England U-18s squad for an international tournament in Rotterdam, Holland, later this month.

Kidderminster-based Price, 18, has just completed her first season alongside Olympic medalist Jane Sixsmith at National Premiership Sutton Coldfield.

It will be the second time Price has led the England U-18 side out after captaining them to third place in an international tournament in March.

This month's competition will comprise two pools of eight teams with the top two going into the semi-finals.

Despite the influence of playing a higher standard of hockey at her new club, the teenager attributes her current success to Stourport.

Price said: "The training and encouragement I received at Stourport has led to where I am today."

She is preparing to give something back to other youngsters in the area and is seeking a position coaching at a local school next year when she takes a gap year from university.
